Since graduating college in December of 2004 Kate has run through the flooded streets of Venice, appeared in the London Flyfishers Journal, taught snowboard lessons in the White Mountains, learned the art of customer service at an organic, simple food, community involved pizza restaurant- Flatbread Co., and sold her handmade earrings at the Kahului Swapmeet (Maui, Hawaii), further leading her to an apprenticeship in a local wood shop working with Koa and learning of older Maui days over octopus soup lunches. She came to 1% For The Planet as a volunteer in mid-September while also working part-time at the Patagonia Outlet in Freeport, Maine. With the 2008 New Year Kate became a full time 1%er as the Program Assistant aka “Planetary Program Planner”. She is thrilled at the opportunity to put her college studies to use with 1%- combining her many interests into one great cause for environmental preservation and protection.
Kate received her BA in Mass Communication at the University of Maine in Orono. At UMaine she was a campus radio DJ for three years and appointed Co-Music Director her senior year with the added responsibility of creating greater awareness of the basement establishment. She has taken classes at the University of California in Berkeley and finished her college studies abroad in London through Boston University. In London she narrowed her focus in an internship with a small, guerilla marketing and public relations group- Freewheelin Media. Back in the day Kate also had an internship with Clear Channel Radio.
Kate has been donating to environmental non-profits since she was in high school. Some of her favorite things on this planet include fly-fishing with her dad, everything ocean, music that gives her goose bumps, snowboarding, all kinds of art and her morning espresso.
